Recent Events

It is hard to believe it is May already! April flew by so quickly. It was a very busy month for us here at Hyles-Anderson College. We started out the month with our bi-annual College Days. We welcomed high school students from sixteen states to our campus for three days of classes, chapel, and activities.

During College Days, the delegates and the entire student body got enjoyed the annual Hylander Basketball Championship Game. This year’s championship game featured the Suns (Tim Dail, Captain) against the reigning, undefeated champions, the Pistons (Jon Beil, Captain). It was a very hard fought game with John Woosely hitting a long three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. In the end, the Suns defeated the Pistons by a score of 82-81.

The annual Ladies’ Conference at First Baptist Church was held on April 17-18. Our ladies got to hear Mrs. Joleen Sloan from Santa Clara, California and Mrs. Sharon Rabon from Raleigh, North Carolina. Many of our college ladies were refreshed and encouraged after two days of “girl time” with Mrs. Wilkerson and the special speakers.

Senior Day is the highlight of the year for those graduating in May. On April 23, the Activities Department, along with the seniors and their dates, loaded buses and headed out for a full day of fun and activities in Chicago. The morning began at Golden Corral for an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. From there, they drove to Millennium Park in downtown Chicago to enjoy the beautiful, sunny weather. Chicago’s Magnificent Mile was the next stop for two hours of world-class shopping and sightseeing. Then they all met at Foodlife, a gourmet food court, in the Water Tower Mall. After two hours of feasting, the group stopped at U.S. Cellular Field to watch a baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City Royals. It was a great day of fun and memories that will last a lifetime.

We were honored to host a number of guest speakers and lecturers on our campus in April. In addition to our staff, faculty, and administrators, the students of Hyles-Anderson College had the opportunity to hear and interact with the following men of God this month:

  • Bro. Steve Cox – Mocksville, North Carolina
  • Pastor Tom Bish – Wallingford, Connecticut
  • Pastor John Wrightson – Jacksonville, North Carolina
  • Pastor Joseph Brown – Washington, Iowa
  • Pastor Ron Talley – Chesterfield, Virginia
  • Pastor Mark Wilkerson – Rantoul, Illinois
  • Pastor Eric Tastet – Reno, Nevada
  • Pastor B.G. Buchanan – Baton Rouge, Louisiana
  • Pastor Ted Speer – Ghana, West Africa
  • Dr. Lou Baldwin – Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia
There is no place in the world like chapel at Hyles-Anderson College. It truly was an amazing month of preaching and teaching.

Alumni News

We have enjoyed a great month visiting with our alumni and friends in West Virginia and also in Michigan. On April 14, we had an Alumni and Friends Fellowship at Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Corey Bane in Martinsburg, West Virginia. We had a delicious fried chicken dinner with all the trimmings and great tasting, assorted cakes. There were a total of 120 in attendance, including 53 alumni and many friends. Eight of these alumni are pastors, and one is a missionary. We surely appreciated the sweet spirit that permeated the room.

Pastor John Vaprezsan hosted our next Alumni and Friends Fellowship at Metro Baptist Church in Belleville, Michigan, on April 21. We enjoyed a grilled chicken dinner with an incredible salad bar and desserts. Mrs. Vaprezsan and some ladies of the church provided the decorations using our college colors of blue and yellow. We had a total of 95 in attendance with 42 alumni, including nine pastors and one missionary. We are truly blessed to spend time with our precious alumni and friends at these fellowships.

We are looking forward to our next Alumni and Friends Fellowship with Pastor Mike Mutchler at Grand View Baptist Church, 14855 S. Leland Road, Beavercreek, Oregon, on May 4, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. (PST). Pastor John Wilkerson, Dr. Stuart Mason, Dr. Ray Young, and Bro. Steve Froelke will be attending this fellowship. If you live near this area, please join us for this very uplifting time.

If you have any questions or would like to participate in any of our Alumni and Friends events, please contact the Alumni Department at (219) 365-4031 extension 1165 or email Bro. Steve Froelke at froelkes@hylesanderson.edu. You can also stay connected to the Alumni Department by visiting our Alumni and Friends Facebook group.
